Tax-Exempt Bond Underwriting

SMITH HAYES Public Finance department helps public officials build and improve Nebraska by providing expert advice and professional management of municipal bond sales for a variety of issuers across the state.

Since 1985, SMITH HAYES has provided financing for the growth of our cities and schools, the development and maintenance of our infrastructure, the improvement of our health care facilities, and many other public purposes.

SMITH HAYES is at work in Nebraska every day, financing the capital needs of a variety of borrowers, public and private:

Municipalities
Counties
No other Nebraska firm understands county finance better that SMITH HAYES. We have worked with over two-thirds of Nebraska counties to finance equipment acquisitions, road improvements and building projects--including courthouses, jails and county hospital projects.

Cities
SMITH HAYES provides sound advice, creative structuring and aggressive bond marketing services for all types of city projects. Our city experience ranges from street and infrastructure improvements, to utilities, and even special projects such as bonds for swimming pools and other recreational facilities.

Other Taxing Authorities
We provide financing for facilities and infrastructure on behalf of public bodies, such as school districts, airport authorities, rural fire districts and other special districts. SMITH HAYES is experienced with all kinds of general and special obligation debt. We do what it takes to get the deal done right--whether it requires the creation of a brand new district, working with local officials to pass a bond election, or other special arrangements.

Health Care
SMITH HAYES is a leader in the Nebraska health care finance industry. Our public finance bankers work in tandem with a network of health care industry professionals to build long-term relationships with our clients. Our experience ranges from 501(c)(3) to government-owned entities and from metropolitan acute care facilities to critical access facilities throughout rural Nebraska.

SMITH HAYES Public Finance is committed to providing access to capital markets and securing the lowest cost of capital for our clients. Our strategic marketing of bonds and our willingness to explore nontraditional financing structures support our commitment to health care. We will continue to be a leader in health care finance because of our ability to adapt our financing approach to meet the needs of our clients.

Affordable Housing
Municipal bonds are an important source of funding for affordable housing in Nebraska. SMITH HAYES works with the Nebraska Investment Finance Authority and local public housing authorities to provide funding for single-family homes and multifamily housing projects for low and moderate income Nebraskans. We understand the unique challenges rural areas experience trying to provide adequate housing, and work through all channels of local, state and federal government to ensure access to the resources necessary to complete our projects in Lincoln and Omaha, and the rest of the state.

Rural Power
Bonds provide much of the funding for the growth and maintenance of the distribution systems for Nebraska’s electricity. SMITH HAYES helps rural electrical associations and public power districts determine and access the appropriate amount of debt financing to meet their capital needs.

Higher Education
SMITH HAYES is active in financing projects for Nebraska’s institutions of higher learning, both public and private. We have worked with the University of Nebraska, the Nebraska Education Finance Authority, and community colleges throughout the state to secure funding to improve Nebraska’s educational resources.

Industrial Development Bonds
SMITH HAYES has been active in the issuance of bonds for several manufacturing and other industrial facilities across the state. Our experience in this field is proof to our clients that we have the skill to manage the complicated process of securing volume cap and selling bonds to help for-profit companies achieve their capital expansion objectives.
